Inside a pyrolysis plant dry biomass gets burned incompletely. The flammable hydrolysis-gas produced within that process is used in a gas engine. The engine runs a generator which transforms the energy into electricity, which is fed directly into the grid.

The primary input is wooden biomass like wood chips, pellets, straw, bark, or sawdust.

The coal as raw output material can be used as soil conditioner or also as cheap charcoal.

Combustion Plant

The classical combustion plant is primarily used for resources, which cause disposal costs. The heat resulting from that process can be used directly as process heat or can be put into a steam turbine to produce electric power.


The main inputs are non-recyclable, degraded or dry residuals from production processes. Health endangering materials such as hospital waste or residual waste are also likely to be used for this technology.


The novis company offers an entire spectrum of plants, from small mobile plants for temporary use to stationary urban waste incinerators with throughput about 1.000 tons per day.

The waste-to-energy-plant is a combination of various technologies to guarantee the exploitation of every component of the used waste.


Usually the first step is to sort the incoming waste into its sub-fractions. Afterward these fractions separately get fed into further exploitations. That means for example biogas plants for organic fractions, certain cleaning steps, or the direct combustion for flammable fractions.


A great request for this kind of plant is in Asian regions. That is because of their problem with increasing amounts of mixed waste.


Biological treatment of residues

The novis company has years of experience in controlling and monitoring biological processes. Based on that we developed procedures for the treatment of organic residuals. The main goal is to turn materials seen as waste into valuables during these biological processes.


In the meantime novis developed a procedure to recycle a significant amount of growth substrate from the mushroom production. Through that process there can be made savings in the procurement of new substrate and in the disposal of used material.


Another project of our company is about the previously unused materials of the cocoa industry. Within a certain procedure we could develop a huge amount of unused potentials for the production of cocoa powder.

This project was evolved for the electrification of a rural area in Senegal.



Another example is the concept of integrating a vacuum vaporizer into a biogas plant for using the wasted heat (combined heat and power production).
